My (guilty) daily design fix…

Kickstarter.com is amazing and just shows how far the internet has brought us.

While much of the content is what annoys me about the design industry, its the concept of the website and its vision to aid innovation which really gets my juices flowing. Gone are the days of trying to prove to the bank manager/investor/parent that your design is going to change the world, the power of social media now provides that financial backing.

Innovation in business innovation.

Love it!

Hate to say I told you so…

All I seem to talk about is 3D printing and hopefully the world is about to justify my endless, boring championing.

We are finally on the highstreets of Manhatten. MarkerBot Industries has opened a 3D printer retail revolution. I hope they get it right.

Admittedly, this is still as far away from being mainstream as it was before but the pioneers are pioneering. Manhatten may be a far cry from the towns, villages and cities most people live in and I hope this doesn’t become a trend that dies a death once the higher eschelons of society get bored of it. This has worth in the real world.

Revolights

I love this concept.
Straining to reserve judgement until I’ve seen them in proper action.

Motors co ukMotors.co.uk research reveals that ‘the Wiggins effect’ has gripped over a third (36%) of British motorists, all of whom have been positively influenced in some way by Team GB’s cycling success.

However, over a third (34%)  feel that the UK’s roads are too dangerous for cyclists, with almost  3 in 10 (26%) calling upon the Government to invest more in lanes and schemes.

One in twenty (6%)  have been inspired to cycle more as a result of the Team GB cycling team’s astounding success.

Olympic cycling superstars such as Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton have played their part in improving the beleaguered relationship between British drivers and cyclists, according to research from Motors.co.uk. Over a third (36%) of motorists claimed that their attitude to those on two wheels has been positively influenced by Olympic cycling success this summer.

My personal 3D Revolution

After posting about the future of 3D printing, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about its potential. I have got to the point now where I just need to buy one, but can I justify the outlay. I have visions of my only little business, modelling and producing parts for the local community but will I be jumping in too early? Are the people of the world ready for this technology? A technology at such an early stage of development, being trialled and tested far away from the general public, is one that needs gently massaging into modern day culture as not to scary everyone away. Looking at the machines currently available (see below for example), they remind me of the scary ‘grey-box’ PC’s of the 90’s. The technology is getting their now, we just need a big player to get hold of it and make it useable.

I have faith in society to fully buy into 3D printing one day, but we need industry to deal out the proverbial back rub first!

Walk Away from Traffic

Bike rules all!

Moment Matters

The true causes Traffic jam?

It isn’t the density of people, but the density of cars. As shown in the photo above, a bunch of people occupied the whole street when they rode with their personal cars. Head-striking traffic is eradicated when people use economical mediums such as a bus or environmental such as bicycle.

December of last year sold 1,145,079 vehicles in United States. With roughly a million cars sold each month, no wonder why our roads are intersected with traffic.

People blame different factors to traffic. Main in the list was the disturbances, like accident or construction constricting the road. And of course, rush hour, the most used excuse.

Japan Airlines CEO Haruka Nishimatsu rides the public bus to work; while every person is prided with his or her own vehicle in the United States.

If you’ll just go to the book store a block away, walking won’t be…
